Hello
Dr. Geoffrey Johnson's career spans decades, working in law enforcement and advocacy. He earned a doctorate of human letters from his extensive work in community advocacy and human services.
My Story
I embarked on a career in civil service and served as an evaluator, auditor, and criminal investigator with several agencies and departments of the federal government (See Attachment A). I received numerous awards for saving U.S. taxpayers millions of dollars; identified fraud in government operations; employee misconduct that resulted in disbarments, suspensions, dismissals and imprisonments; and investigated sexual assaults, homicides, and financial crimes and referred matters of concern to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Post civil service, I taught life skills at non-profit organizations that catered to returning citizens who sought assistance with acquiring general equivalency diplomas (GED) and employment opportunities. I also served as a court appointed special advocate (CASA) for children in foster care (Prince George’s County, MD).
In 2015, I co-founded a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization called DC Project Connect (DCPC), which provides advocacy and support for families and children impacted by incarceration. DCPC has also been an instrument for domestic and international research on topics that include family visit practices in United Kingdom prisons and caregiver communication practices with children affected by family member incarceration. I also provide responses to constituent questions concerning the criminal justice system and reentry processes. DCPC’s legacy has largely provided pro bono programs and family reintegration services at residential reentry centers and local jails.
I have written several children’s books and authored the DC Project Connect Handbook: “Surviving a Loved One’s Incarceration.” I also co-authored several journal articles related to research endeavors.
I am a proud member of the Syracuse University Orange Nation (B.A./MPA) and Bowie State University’s Counseling Education and Supervision inaugural doctoral cohort.
